Today I wanted to give you a starting point, what you do for your acne, before you do anything for your acne. This is going to be a really helpful way to address how you approach healing your skin.

The first thing you’re going to do is check in with yourself and ask yourself, “how am I today?”
This is a pivotal question that will help you determine your next steps. It will help you decide where you focus your energy and your effort on what will give you the most benefits.
Let me explain what that means.
If you check in with yourself and you feeling any where from “ok” to good – that is the time when you focus on the actions you’re going to take. That is when you decide if you’re going to try a new product, make changes to your diet, what those changes going to be, etc.
This is when you do this work.
If you are not fine, or good, or ok – if you are in that place where you’re feeling frustrated, or hopeless, or sad, or anxious, or like you don’t want to go outside and you hate your reflection in the mirror, in these time you do NOT want to focus on any of those decisions.
When you feel bad, you’re going to want to look for a solution. You’re going to think that the reason you feel bad is your acne, so you have to find an acne solution so you can feel better. That means you are going to put an immense amount of pressure on whatever it is you decide to do.
But all of those things, the products, the diet changes, finding some other solution for your skin, all of that is just noise when you are in that place.
Focusing on those thing is going to cause you to make decisions that won’t necessarily serve you in the best possible way. You are not going to find the best solution for yourself from that head space. You need to address why you feel that way.
I don’t have your specific answer as to why your skin is bothering you, but I know part of it. Part of the reason you feel bad is that you are grieving. (Stay with me here). You are in a place where you feel like your skin is denying you something, and you need to do the work to figure out what that is.
Because of your acne, what are you not doing, being or having? Ask yourself that. Because that is why you are upset. You feel like you have lost, or are losing, something. Maybe it’s some potential future that you feel you are being denied. Maybe it’s the loss of your confidence. Working through that is where you need to focus your efforts. That is where the healing needs to take place.
And if you don’t know how to do that, then at the very least, these are the days when you just go easy on yourself. Give yourself a break and find ways to treat yourself with kindness.
So, to be clear – the first thing you should do is check in with yourself.
Ok to great = Zoom in and make decisions.
“Meh” to crap = Zoom out. Take it easy on yourself.
If you would like help with this process, I would love to have a conversation with you. The only requirement is that you be open and willing to share your story. If you can do that, I will make time to give you guidance.
